    Swami on Seva

Do not serve for the sake of reward, attracting attention, or earning gratitude, or from a sense of pride at your own superiority in the skill, wealth, status or authority. Serve because you are urged by Love. When you succeed, ascribe the success to the Grace of God, who urged you on, as Love within you. When you fail ascribe the failure to your inadequacy, insincerity or ignorance. Examine the springs of action; disinfect them from all trace of ego. Do not throw the blame on the recipients of the Seva or your collaborators and co-workers or on God.

Seva in all its forms, all the world over, is primarily Sadhana! It is spiritual discipline, mental clean-up. Without the inspiration given by that attitude, the urge is bound to ebb and grow dry; or it may meander into pride and pomp. Just think for a moment: Are you serving God? Or, is God serving you? When the pilgrim stands waist deep in Ganga, takes in his palms the sacred water, and, reciting an invocatory formula, pours the water as an offering to the Deity, an Arpan as he calls it, what he has done is only poured Ganga into Ganga! When you offer milk to a hungry child, or a blanket to a shivering brother on the pavement, you are but placing a gift of God into the hands of another gift of God! You are reposing the gift of God in repository of the Divine Principle! God serves; He allows you to claim that you have served! Without His will, not a single blade of grass can quiver in the breeze. Fill every moment with gratitude to the Giver and the Recipient of all gifts.

Weekly (Friday) Fruit juice/Tea & Sandwich Seva
Every Friday morning, Seva dal members assemble to prepare bread sandwiches. Bread sandwich & Laban (thick butter milk)/fresh fruit juice is served during summers to Narayans working as construction workers and newspaper boys at the road intersections. Laban/fruit juice are replaced with tea, a packet of biscuits is added in the bread sandwich seva during winters. Approximately 180 Narayans are served each Friday.

    Cooked Food Narayan Seva:
Invoking Divine grace, the devotees perform cooked food Narayan Seva once in a month. Our Narayans are expatriate employees living in labour camps away from their families.

    Dry Food Seva:
Invoking divine grace, dry food items like pulses, rice, salt, spices, cooking oil, sugar, tea, milk powder etc. and items of daily use like bathing soap, washing soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc. are distributed to Narayans living in labour camps. These Narayans are mostly unpaid or under paid and have none other than our beloved Bhagwan to look for.

Approximately 50 Muslim brothers living in labour camps away from their families are served iftar on Fridays. Devotees chant to sanctify prasadam while preparing food items at home. Each food packet contains Rava Kanji, potato stew, dates, apple, orange, pakodas, dal vada, chundal (an item prepared with chick beans), appam and rose milk.
