Jyoti Meditation
We devotees have been taught by Bhagwan Baba the exercise of meditation on the jyoti. Some steps for this exercise are given below:
  1. The devotees should have fixed time and fixed place to sit every day silently, either in the morning and/or evening
  2. He should sit on a thin mattress for meditation. The sitting pose or asana should be comfortable both for his body and mind.
  3. He should then chant Omkar, the Divine Cosmic Sound. The mind under the influence of this Divine Sound, slowly looses momentum and becomes more and more tranquil and steady.
  4. The next step is to put the breath in rhythm. The easiest and the most effortless method is to watch and breath. Thereby, the process becomes normal, that is, longer and calmer. When he inhales, the breath sounds ‘So’ and when he exhales, it sounds “Humm”, which means ‘He’ that is God and ‘I’ respectively. Accordingly synchronizing with these two breaths, he must mentally chant consciously ‘Sohum’ mantra which develops a sublime faith with every breath that ‘God and I are one’.
  5. He then bathes his senses in the light of the Divine Jyoti by mentally taking the Jyoti through every limb of the body and say: “Let not my eyes see evil” “Let not my ears hear bad or evil” “Let my tongue speak only sweet words” “Let my hand do only the right things” “Let my legs be always moving towards places for good action and good work”.
  6. Then he takes the jyoti on the figure of the Deity of his choice of worshipping and fixes his vision on the Jyoti.
  7. He then commences his meditation, with or without JAPA.
  8. He does JAPA of his chosen mantra with full understanding of its meaning and convinced of its importance and benefits. It should be interwoven with his breathing process of inhaling and exhaling.
  9. The eyelids should not be strained or under tension. This exercise of meditation, if made a regular part of our day to day life, develops in us the power of discrimination between right and wrong, increases our will-power and strengthens our memory. For students this is the best spiritual exercise for developing a sound memory and sharpening their intellect.
